When my mind goes back to Africa

Delivering mail by day, writing by night (or very early in the morning is more often the case.)

WRITINGWRITING ABOUT AFRICA

While driving in my mail truck or walking up one side of a street and down the other delivering mail, my mind often drifts back to our time in Africa. It was nothing like our home state of New Hampshire. Six months of rainy season, six months of dry season. But always hot!

Back then I had to remind myself that this term of four years in Africa would bring no snow or ice, no beautiful Fall foliage, and no Spring thaw. No more sledding, ice skating or ice fishing either. Our first term of overseas service turned into many consecutive terms, spanning almost three decades. But I can honestly say that we grew to love Africa and our African friends.

I love this picture of a dirt road taking us through the African bush to. . .who knows where? Most of the time a road like this led to a remote village with no church and no Bible translation in the local dialect. No gas stations. No grocery stores. Then you would see the huts appear--yes, a village!

Today my writing projects often include bits and pieces of our time in Africa. Culture. Language. Food. I can't get it out of my mind. So I share it with you, my reader.

Thank you for visiting my website, and taking the time to read my blog post, or one of my sample pieces under the Writing Projects tab.

In these blog posts you will read about how I got into writing, and why it means so much to me. It all started with reading aloud to my children (and now to my grandchildren) but that is a subject for another post.
